Product codes in Picqer
When setting up a warehouse for the first time, one question you want answered is how to build a product code. This is a unique number that refers to one specific product. It’s is also called SKU, short for Stock Keeping Unit.
The product codes in Picqer can be found under the 'Products' tab. Click on it in the menu on the left and then on '+ New product'. The first thing to enter is the product code. If you have a webshop and import products into Picqer, the product code is automatically transferred to Picqer.
The easy way to assign a SKU to a product is to use manufacturer's product codes. If you purchase products and they already have unambiguous product codes, it is often easy to copy these codes from the manufacturer. This means you don't have to think about them yourself and the product codes are already on the packaging. It is also easy for your own purchase orders.
You can only use each product code once, so each product code is unique. Picqer supports any product code you can think of, up to a maximum of 250 characters. Also with any punctuation marks and leading zeros. You can save a separate product code in Picqer for your supplier, if you use a different number than your supplier does.
Productcodes and barcodes
In addition to product codes, you can also create barcodes in Picqer. These are two different things in Picqer. We emphasize this here because they are sometimes confused. You can use product codes to scan the products during the picking process, you don't have to create special barcodes for that. However, a label must always be created from a product code or barcode. Scanners do not read real numbers. If you have entered product codes or barcodes for the products in Picqer, you can print product labels directly from Picqer.
