What can I do with Packagings in Picqer?
With Packagings in Picqer you help employees to choose the right packaging faster at the packing table. In addition, you gain insight into consumption, so that you can purchase packaging in a targeted manner and charge it to fulfillment customers.
To use this feature, first set up your packagings under Settings > Packagings.
Packaging advice
At the packing table it can be difficult to choose suitable packaging. Do the products fit in this box? Can this go in an envelope? New employees in particular have difficulty with this, which loses a lot of time at the packing table. By advising on packaging, you help employees to choose the right packaging more quickly. We show the advised packaging on the picklist and in the shipment pop-up. This way it is always clear which packaging should be used.
There are two ways to advise packaging in Picqer: automatically or using Rules.
Automatic advice
Picqer can automatically advise a suitable packaging based on the products on a picklist. We do this by stacking all products on top of each other and searching for the smallest packaging that fits it.
By default, automatic advice is disabled. You can enable this at the bottom of the packagings overview. When editing packaging, you can choose to exclude it from the automatic advice. This is useful for special packaging, such as a pallet, tube or extra protective packaging.
Manual advice using Rules
For more flexibility, you can use Rules to advise suitable packaging. This can be done using the rule action "Recommend packaging".
How do I advise packaging with rules?
Suppose you have a single picklist with 1 product that should always be shipped in an envelope. You can advise this as follows using Rules:
Conditions:
- Product tags > contain > "letterbox package"
- Amount of products > is smaller or equal to > "1"
Action:
- Advise packaging > "Envelope"
There are also three rule conditions that can be useful: "longest length", "widest width" and "total height" of all products on the picklist. This allows you to advise packaging based on the dimensions yourself, if you do not want to use the automatic advice.
Insight into consumption
To gain insight into consumption, you can select the packaging used when creating a shipment. This can be done using the mouse or a scan (if the packaging has a barcode in Picqer). By default, we select the advised packaging. You can always select a different packaging. This is useful when the advice is incorrect or the packaging is no longer in stock.
Via Reports > Packagings you can gain insight into consumption. Based on this report, you can purchase packaging in a targeted manner or charge it to fulfillment customers. Via Reports > Shipments you can see which packaging was used for a shipment.
