Virtual compositions
With a virtual composition, the products or parts are stored at different locations in your warehouse. Picqer works out the stock of the composition from the stock of its parts.
A virtual composition has no stock of its own. If one of the parts is not available, the whole composition goes into backorder.

Good to know
- A composite product gets its own product code. Picqer treats it as a separate product.
- If one of the parts is not available, the whole product is not shipped.
- You can only delete a composite product if it has never been ordered. If it has, you can only make the product inactive.
- You cannot change the product type once the product has stock.
- You cannot ship one composition from several warehouses. The stock of all parts has to be available in 1 warehouse.
Processing a virtual composition
When you process an order with a virtual composition, Picqer adds its parts to the order. This also happens when a virtual composition is ordered through the API or your store.
That is why a concept order only shows the composite product. After you process the order, you see all the parts as well.
Virtual composition on the picklist and packinglist
When a virtual composition has been ordered, the picklist shows all the parts you need to pick. You scan each part separately, so you know for sure that every part is shipped.
By default, the packinglist for your customer only shows the ordered product: the composition, not its parts. Do you want the parts on the packinglist too? Go to Settings > General settings and set 'Show parts of virtual compositions on packinglist' to 'Yes' under 'Packinglists'. The parts then appear on the packinglist in the 'Assembled products' block.
You can deviate from this per template. In the packinglist options of a template you choose 'Same as general setting', 'No' or 'Yes'. The choice on the template takes precedence.
Creating a virtual composition
In Picqer, go to Products > New product.
Fill in the general details and go to the 'Product type' section:
Choose 'Virtual composition'.
Under 'Assembly' you set the expected assembly time. This is optional.
After saving, you see the product page:
On the 'Parts' tab you add the parts of the composition. You can also set how many of each part you need.
Editing composite products
You can change the composite product afterwards by clicking 'Edit product' in the top right corner. You can change the product code, name and price, among other things. On the 'Parts' tab you change the composition.
